A study of hospitals participating in Medicare's bundled payment program found that those with safety-net status didn't differ from others on postdischarge care cost or quality, but discharged a higher percentage of patients to institutions and a lower percentage to home health care.

ICU admission associated with worse outcomes in sepsis, better survival in acute respiratory failure
Patients admitted from the ED to the ICU with sepsis had worse survival and longer length of stay than those admitted to the wards, while patients with acute respiratory failure had better survival in the ICU than on a medical ward, a multicenter study found.

Discharge of heart failure patients to settings not recommended by therapists linked to increased readmission risk

Palliative care consults by default did not affect inpatient length of stay
Implementation of a default, opt-out palliative care consultation intervention for older hospital patients with advanced chronic illnesses did increase consult rates from 16.6% to 43.9% and significantly increased odds of discharge to hospice.
