AHA/ASA guidelines on acute ischemic stroke expand thrombectomy window

The guidelines address prehospital stroke care, urgent and emergency evaluation and treatment with IV and intraarterial therapies, and in-hospital management, including secondary prevention measures.

After ICH, patients on NOACs appear more likely to survive to discharge than those on warfarin

The findings in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage suggest that non–vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants may be better than warfarin for patients requiring an anticoagulant with or without concomitant antiplatelet therapy, the authors said.

Training in breathing exercises before upper abdominal surgery reduced postoperative pulmonary complications

Within six weeks before surgery, patients had a 30-minute training session with a physiotherapist, which involved coaching in the breathing exercises, education about pulmonary complications, and an individualized risk assessment.

Progress note template, lecture increased note quality while decreasing length

The template design minimized autopopulation while encouraging clinicians to enter relevant data through free-text fields, prompts, and drop-down menus. The end of the template also featured a checklist of key concerns and quality measures.
