Physician resuscitation champions associated with higher rates of surviving in-hospital cardiac arrest
In a survey study, hospitals that had a very active physician champion of Get With the Guidelines—Resuscitation were four times more likely to be in a higher survival quintile than participating hospitals that did not.

Vasopressin, steroids during resuscitation improved return of circulation during in-hospital cardiac arrest
Administering vasopressin and methylprednisolone after epinephrine increased the likelihood of return of spontaneous circulation compared with placebo in a randomized trial in Denmark; however, given the uncertain effect on survival, the treatment is not ready for usual care, an editorial said.

Neither rate nor type of fluid resuscitation affected outcomes in ICU patients, trial finds
A balanced solution was compared to a 0.9% saline solution in a large trial in Brazilian ICUs that also randomized the same patients to undergo fluid challenges at rates of either 333 mL/h or 999 mL/h.

Study confirms factors predicting survival after resuscitation from cardiac arrest
Age older than 85 years, time to return of spontaneous circulation greater than 30 minutes, and nonventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation as the presenting rhythm were the strongest independent predictors of in-hospital mortality after cardiac arrest, a study found.

Dynamic measures to guide fluid resuscitation may improve outcomes in septic shock
A randomized trial assigned patients with sepsis-associated hypotension to usual care or to assessment of fluid responsiveness with a passive leg raise before a fluid bolus was given or the vasopressor dose was increased.
