Illicitly manufactured fentanyls involved in increasing number of U.S. overdose deaths
From July 2019 to December 2020, sharp increases were seen in deaths involving illicitly manufactured fentanyls in midwestern (33.1%), southern (64.7%), and western (93.9%) jurisdictions, federal data indicate.

Coding differences may explain higher short-term mortality at critical access hospitals
A cross-sectional study of rural Medicare patients assessed differences in risk-adjusted mortality rates between critical access and non-critical access hospitals and found that fewer discharge diagnoses were coded at the former.
