IDSA updates guidance on managing drug-resistant, gram-negative infections

Inpatient oral penicillin challenge more likely in certain low-risk patients
An inpatient penicillin allergy program showed that patients were more likely to proceed from assessment to oral challenge if they had a low-risk phenotype, had an indication for beta-lactam antibiotic therapy, and were medically stable.

Antimicrobial prophylaxis guidelines often not followed after elective surgery
A retrospective cohort study of 521,091 inpatient surgeries at 825 U.S. hospitals found that vancomycin was the most frequently misused agent and its use was associated with increased rates of acute kidney injury.
